I worked with Stephen when he was the Legal Director at Certa (UK) Ltd. I acted for many clients who required insurance for environmental liabilities in relation to contaminated land, waste disposal sites and other activities. Certa shook up the environmental insurance market in the UK in the 1990s and made it a viable market. Stephen played a pivotal role in Certa's success. He was able to combine a strong legal expertise, attention to detail, commercial acuman with strategic insight. Many of the transactions I was involved with would not have been possible without Stephen's engagement, drive and energy.
